Clean, safe, quiet, friendly staff, comfortable bed and only blocks from Times Square! On a reasonably quiet, yet tree lined side street with ample choice of restaurants and jazz bars, this hotel makes a great home base for anyone wishing to explore Manhatten!

The hotel is adorable and very clean. It has a bed and breakfast feel where everyone comes down and sits in the kitchen dining area for breakfast. Room. The bathroom was imaculate and the room was very spacious. The only draw back is that there is no elevator and there are 4 floors to the hotel.

The hotel was nice. The bed was comfortable, the linens clean, bathroom decent. We really liked the flat screen tv. We didn't spend a lot of time watching it, but it was nice after a day of walking to come back, kick off our shoes, and watch a movie. The walk to Times Square was nice, too. Only two blocks, located along restaurant row, so we had plenty of choices for food. The though the hotel was so close to Times Square, it really felt more like a neighborhood atmosphere. I didn't hear any noise while I slept. Granted, the view is pretty nonexistent, but I wasn't looking for that. The staff was really nice, and gave me a more detailed map than I had, which was great for my first trip to NYC. The only negative thing I would say is that the in-room air-conditioner was pretty dirty.

Great Character! Lovely hotel! Exterior of hotel- very inviting. Lobby area- clean, inviting. Courtyard in center of hotel-charming. Rooms-all the furniture and fixtures were modern and in very good condition. We had a small refrigerator which is very convenient. Staff was very nice

Lovely little boutique hotel, nice little room with large and well-appointed bath. Could use a desk, but considering the reasonable price and free broadband, I'm not complaining. Delightful hotel just south of the theater district, a half block from Restaurant Row and 10-minute stroll to Rockefeller Center.

The Hotel 414 is in a great location if you're planning to see a Broadway play as we did. It's also centrally located for other nearby attractions and museums. However, our first night was in a room on the first floor, which was very noisy and the room was tiny, even by NYC standards. We requested a different floor for the second night and they readily accomodated us. The second room, which was located on the 3rd floor, was much larger and quieter. If you stay here, a room on any floor but the first is a must.

Small cozy hotel although the rooms were quite large enough. Loved having breakfast available throughout the morning and all day access to the kitchen. Small courtyard would have been great in the summer. I arrived after midnight and they were expecting me. The night clerk charged me for the room twice but the check-out clerk caught the error and fixed it immediately. Would definitely stay there again!

We picked this hotel because of it's ideal location (midtown Manhattan, but off 9th ave and out of the hectic Times Square area). I was surprised how big it was for a midtown hotel! Everything was clean and comfortable. There was even an ipod dock! The only issue for us was that the TV didn't get all of the channels it claimed to -- but ESPN came in so we were ok. As a note: There is no elevator. We were on the 4th floor and this wasn't a problem at all, but the stairs were rather narrow and not handicap accessible.

If you're looking for a place to catch a few winks between NYC activities, namely theatre, this was a decent place. Room was small, but decent. Could use a coat of paint to help it seem a bit cleaner. Bathroom was clean and that was important to me. Staff was extremely helpful and kind. Air conditioner was a bit loud, but with a carefully placed piece of folded paper and a propped waste basket the rattle seemed to stop! I walked to all of my destinations. Many restaurants very close. If you don't need a big space with luxuries, this would be the place to rest your head.
