Recent Ameritania Hotel Review: "Check in with Emerald could not have been better. I was quickly upgraded to Room 805 upon request which is a corner King room. Room was clean every day. Bed is a mattress on a platform. I can see why some wouldn't like this but i found it comfortable and not an issue at all. Impossible for a hotel to please everyone when it comes to a mattress. Bathroom  very modern and clean. Construction inside hotel minimal and across the street is significant, but I never heard either nor was bothered by them. (leave for work at 7AM and no noise up till that point. No noise after 7PM either) EXCELLENT location! Go out door and turn corner on Broadway and you are looking down the street at Times Square. Easy walk! Dave Letterman next door. Only issues I had with room. The toilet was installed too tight to sink so when you sit down, you are up against the sink. Again, just a product of maximizing space in a NYC hotel room! The other, as others have stated is the lack of TV channels. Has the 3 major networks, some news and a couple cable. No DSC, TLC or other major cable. No reason a hotel should not have better TV! (did have nice flat screen) I was staying on business so I enjoy relaxing at night watching some TV. (wifi is $10/day also) Neither should be a dealbreaker for staying at this clean, well located hotel. Those of you complaining of small rooms, if it is an consolation, this is NYC and it is the norm unless you spend significant more $$$ per night. Be nice and ask politely for an upgrade at check in!! Would definately stay here again."

    A short guide to Midtown

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

    Overview

If the Theater District is on your top 10 list of New York must-sees, the Ameritania is the place to be. You'll be right around the corner from the Ed Sullivan Theater, home to The Late Show with David Letterman and his famous Top 10 lists. Dozens of other Broadway theaters are within a half-mile. And just 4 blocks south, the excitement of Times Square beckons day and night.

As you explore the city, stop for a hot pastrami sandwich and a thick slice of cheesecake at the Carnegie Deli, a New York icon just a 2-minute walk from the hotel. You can burn off your sugar high and a few calories with a walk or run in beautiful Central Park, 4 blocks north of the hotel. Stop by the Central Park Zoo on the southeast side of the park, and bark "hello" to the friendly sea lions. Feeding time is especially fun. Exit the park on the east side, and find yourself on fashionable Fifth Avenue.

After sightseeing, shopping, or shows, take time to unwind in the hotel's Twist Lounge. Settle into a sofa by the fireplace and sip a glass of wine or a martini from the full-service bar. Ready for dinner? Dozens of affordable restaurants, many open till the wee hours, are within a short walk.

Even in The City That Never Sleeps, you'll want to settle down for the night. Small but stylish Hotel Rooms feature platform beds made up with crisp white Belgian linens and down duvets. Watch your favorite late-night show--Letterman, perhaps?--on the cable TV. Check email or plan tomorrow's adventures via wireless Internet access (surcharge). Your marble bathroom is stocked with British Gilchrist & Soames products. Windows have blackout curtains for a good night's sleep.
