Recent Belnord Hotel Review: "I stayed here for 3 nights. I went into booking this level of hotel being a little unsure, so I only booked one night to start. I was VERY pleasantly surprised & book 2 more nights. I also stayed one night at the Hotel Alexander in a room with a shared bathroom. I was very satisfied with it as well. The Belnord is much nicer and newer... but they were both very clean and worth it. I got the room w/ one double bed & a private bath. The ONLY negatives were minor. The room was so tiny it was laughable. A little smaller than a modern cruise ship room. If you laid your suitcase on the floor then you would have to step over them to get to the bathroom or closet, etc. Some reviewer here said that the walls were paper thin. Maybe, but I think most hotels aren't much better. I prepared for the worse and took earplugs with me... I never used them once. The only time I found it noisy is one morning after sleeping in, about 11am they started doing construction down the hall with a electric drill, etc. But I don't think it would have woken me up if I wasn't already up. There was a stereo-typical upset lady that opened her door once as we walked down the hall at night. We were just quietly talking and I am a non-drinker so I wasn't drunk and loud, etc. Who knows maybe someone else was really loud, but it seems that some people just aren't feeling good or they had a bad day and they're just looking for something external to blame it on rather than just saying: I have a headache, etc. The world doesn't usually stop for such occasions. Our Room was newly redone & beautifully furnished. Hardwood floors (what little floor there was), Marble bathrooms, nice wallpaper, big flat-screen TV, very comfortable sheets. Nicer than most middle classed homes. The value for this hotel is definitely above the price-range. This was a wonderful value and I honestly wish I had this option in every other city. It beat the heck out of hotel chains. I do not in any way work for the hotel or know th"

Overview
Traveling on a budget, but still want a great Manhattan location? The Belnord Hotel just might fill the bill. Located in an Upper West Side residential area, the value-priced Belnord is just a half-mile west of New York’s greatest free attraction: the emerald expanse of Central Park. Go for a run, rent a boat, or talk to the animals at the wonderful Central Park Zoo. People-watching at the park is world-class, too. Or stroll about 5 minutes in the other direction to Riverside Park, bordering the Hudson River. Pack a picnic with classic New York bagels and lox from Barney Greengrass, right around the corner from the Belnord. From giant diamonds and dinosaurs to moon rocks and meteorites, the American Museum of Natural History/Rose Center for Earth and Space is a must-see, and it’s less than a mile from the hotel. Take time for an out-of-this-world space show at the Rose Center’s Hayden Planetarium.

If you want to explore Midtown, just hop the fast and budget-friendly subway, 1 block from the hotel. In 10 minutes, you can be in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway Theater District. The cross-town M86 bus takes you through Central Park to the extraordinary Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side. The nearest bus stop is just a 3-minute walk from the Belnord.

Another way to save some dollars: Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel. Forgot your laptop? A computer with high-speed Internet access (surcharge) is in the lobby. And, while the Belnord doesn’t have its own restaurant, you’ll find plenty of budget-friendly options within a short walk, including delis, diners, and ethnic eateries. Zabar’s, Manhattan’s famous food emporium, is 7 blocks south.

When you’ve had your fill of food and fun, return to your compact Hotel Rooms. The flat-screen TV comes with basic cable, and blackout curtains help ensure a good night’s sleep. Wakeup calls are available upon request.

Recreation

Who needs a fitness center when you’re a short walk from 2 of New York’s best parks? At Central Park, a half-mile east, miles of trails offer breathtaking views of the surrounding skyscrapers. Popular walking and running routes include Central Park Drive (closed to traffic during scheduled hours), the path around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and the Ramble, which is also known for bird-watching. You can also rent a bicycle or rowboat at the boathouse. Or, if you’re visiting in winter, go for a spin on the park’s Wollman Rink; skate rentals are available. Riverside Park, a 5-minute walk west of the hotel, features running and walking paths along the Hudson River.

Dining at Belnord Hotel

A short guide to Central Park

Buildings crane above one another to claim views of Central Park, a piece of real estate valued at more than $528 billion. Surprises abound in its 843 acres. The grounds include a castle, a zoo, several lakes, and an Egyptian obelisk. A city that never sleeps needs its quiet time, too: Central Park has six designated “quiet zones,” including Strawberry Fields, the monument to John Lennon.
