Overview of CENTRAL PARK New York Hotels

The Upper East and Upper West Sides bracket Central Park. It's surrounded by impressive architecture, fine restaurants and hotels for people on any budget. The Park was created in the 1850s and its beauty remains impressive to this day. Starting from any one of a number of Central Park New York hotels, take the time to wander around lakes, through surprisingly dense woodland and across broad meadows, or do what New Yorkers do, and take a morning jog around the Reservoir. Be ready to follow your ears; they may lead you to a staged or impromptu concert. Keep an eye out for interesting statues. They're not all on pedestals—some perch on stones or ledges (and of course, some statues don't perch at all, but watch you from your garden, plotting your demise).

Don't forget to stop by The Boathouse Restaurant (inside the park at 72nd Street) for a delicious Brunch. They also rent rowboats and bicycles so you can explore a different side of Central Park. Alternatively, make an occasion to dine and stay at Fantino, a luxury hotel and restaurant. Fantino offers fine veal medallions and mouth-watering lamb chops for dinner and a full Italian menu including many rare and delicious breakfast choices. Their menu is on the high-priced side, but the experience is nothing short of a New York memory. If you're in the mood to venture away from south Central Park, there are a number of options along the way.

The Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridian serves up a burger they boast as "New York's finest". It sells for a fine price (fine being affordable for college kids) that's certain to make the flavor that much better. The Burger Joint is located inside the Meridian Hotel, for people looking to stay on the west side. The Meridian, like the restaurant it houses, is one of the most affordable around the park, but you shouldn't mix affordability up with reduced quality. In fact, many people rate the burger and the room as one of the best experiences in the Big Apple.

Along the east side, it is worth taking a look at Malanga. It isn't quite on the Central Park circuit, but for the food that it offers, it's worth straying from the well-beaten path. Malanga serves up authentic, fine Spanish cuisine at midrange prices and specializes in providing a romantic atmosphere perfect for a memorable date. About a quarter of a mile away, the Melrose Hotel New York provides local flair to your stay nearby. Providing an intimate look at the city's culture, this hotel is a great place to go for a change from the usual.

Finishing off the compass, North Central Park is near to Lolita's—one of the most iconic Mexican eateries in town. You'll have to discover your favorite dish when you go, since everyone seems to have a different idea of perfection there, and with exception to the guacamole, no two opinions are quite the same, except to say that the food is exquisite. For a local hotel experience, Astor on the Park Hotel offers great rooms with local zest. Rooms are cheap and all the amenities are available. There are so many choices around the park, it's hard to narrow it to just four of each, and you might find others that you prefer, but for starters, you at least have a compass to follow.
