Recent Fresh Hostel Review: "My friend and I went to NYC for five days and wanted to spend the least amount possible on plane fare and hotel accomadations in order to free up more money to spend on fake crap in Chinatown. The Continental Hostel came in as one of the cheapest places to stay and after reading the reviews, we expected the worst. I must say that upon arriving at the hostel, we were pleasantly surprised. We already knew that everything in the city is the size of a matchbox, but the rooms were not nearly as small as we expected. We had a bunk bed with a shared bathroom and both were very clean. There are a few bathrooms on each floor and during our five day stay our nearest bathroom was only twice occupied when I needed to use it. We simply walked down the hall to second nearest. There is no television, but who visits NYC to watch TVr Overall a great experience and we would definitely stay there again."

| It was just what you'd expect out of a hostel. Communal bathroom and bunkbed. I don't stay in a hostel to hang out. There's too much to see in the city. It really is just a place to sleep when you must. For the price in NYC, it was in a great location just blocks from Central Park and close to Columbia's campus. |

| Great Neighborhood, good transportation. The bathrooms were clean and there are enough of them that I didn't have to wait.
The room was relatively clean. Sheets could be a little less see through.
The staff could let you know where things are when you check in.
Security was good.

| At check-in all was as expected, but once you get to the private room we had, you understand that this place is extremely overpriced for what it offers. VERY basic amenities, bad smell, mould on the walls are jst a few of the things I want to mention. |

| Located on the upper west side of New York city, The Fresh Hotel and Hostel is just that; Fresh. With updated styling for the industrial artist in all of us, the hotel gives you the feeling of being a part of NYC but not paying a million dollars to stay there. My overall experience was a good one, the room was small but the price was right and i can't complain about that. |

| I stayed by the same season in a hotel close to this one, and the rate was almost the same but the room had air conditioner and TV. The hotel is not bad is there is not another option but still can improve those services. |

| The Fresh Hotel is located in a great section of town, the Upper West Side. The neighborhood has a lot of stores and restaurants, is conveniently located to two subway lines-- videlicet, red, within two blocks, and the orange within five--- and is two blocks away from Broadway. So, if you value location over creature comforts, by all means stay here.
On the other hand, it was, indeed, very spartan in accommodation. I had a bed, blankets and sheets, a pillow, two towels, and that's it. No tv, but they gave two bars of soap, small size.
However, the room was clean and vermin free, although it had a well worn look.
If I am going to be in NYC all day, and just need a place to crash, I will come here again. If I am going to be using the room for more than sleeping, I will go to another hotel I found here on Hotels dot com.
And, I did sleep well! The pipes don't clang as much as other reviewers have complained about, and the room was cleaner than I thought might be for a 1 1/2 star hotel, and they DO have working wireless, so if you have a laptop, you will have entertainment.
In all, I give it a 3.1. It is not the Ritz-Carlton, by any stretch of the imagination, but the price isn't either. |

| We were more than satisfied with the hotel, as the room and also the bathroom were clean and in good overall shape. Honestly, we expected it to be worse.
Of course you should not expect too much, but this hotel is absolutely worth the money, especially in NYC. Location is okay as well, there are some nice restaurans in that area and it takes only 20mins to go to downtown Manhattan (MTA, red line 1,2,3 from 96th street). We'd definitely recommend this place. |

| My one night stay at the Fresh Hotel/Hostel was very calm and quiet. The room I was given was very clean and seem to have new carpet. The only draw back was there did not seem to be any means of heat. My one night stay was very cold, but the extra hot bath I took in the morning was fantastic! This hotel/hostel had very clean bathroom facilities. I stayed on the 6th floor. |
