| It was just what you'd expect out of a hostel. Communal bathroom and bunkbed. I don't stay in a hostel to hang out. There's too much to see in the city. It really is just a place to sleep when you must. For the price in NYC, it was in a great location just blocks from Central Park and close to Columbia's campus. |

| Great Neighborhood, good transportation. The bathrooms were clean and there are enough of them that I didn't have to wait.
The room was relatively clean. Sheets could be a little less see through.
The staff could let you know where things are when you check in.
Security was good.
Not bad for the price |

| At check-in all was as expected, but once you get to the private room we had, you understand that this place is extremely overpriced for what it offers. VERY basic amenities, bad smell, mould on the walls are jst a few of the things I want to mention. |

| It was a case of "Does it exactly what is says on the tin!"
It was very cheap so we didn't expect anything fancy at all. We came knowing that it was basically a roof to stay under whilst we were in New York. The Hostel itself is as basic as you get, but it was clean enough and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was wifi but that was no good to us so we could have done with internet, but luckily the adjoining hotel (Candy Hostel) had this as well as safe lockers to store your luggage. You could use the facilities of the Candy Hostel so it wasn't an issue. |

| Located on the upper west side of New York city, The Fresh Hotel and Hostel is just that; Fresh. With updated styling for the industrial artist in all of us, the hotel gives you the feeling of being a part of NYC but not paying a million dollars to stay there. My overall experience was a good one, the room was small but the price was right and i can't complain about that. |

| I stayed by the same season in a hotel close to this one, and the rate was almost the same but the room had air conditioner and TV. The hotel is not bad is there is not another option but still can improve those services. |

| The Fresh Hotel is located in a great section of town, the Upper West Side. The neighborhood has a lot of stores and restaurants, is conveniently located to two subway lines-- videlicet, red, within two blocks, and the orange within five--- and is two blocks away from Broadway. So, if you value location over creature comforts, by all means stay here.
On the other hand, it was, indeed, very spartan in accommodation. I had a bed, blankets and sheets, a pillow, two towels, and that's it. No tv, but they gave two bars of soap, small size.
However, the room was clean and vermin free, although it had a well worn look.
If I am going to be in NYC all day, and just need a place to crash, I will come here again. If I am going to be using the room for more than sleeping, I will go to another hotel I found here on Hotels dot com.
And, I did sleep well! The pipes don't clang as much as other reviewers have complained about, and the room was cleaner than I thought might be for a 1 1/2 star hotel, and they DO have working wireless, so if you have a laptop, you will have entertainment.
In all, I give it a 3.1. It is not the Ritz-Carlton, by any stretch of the imagination, but the price isn't either. |
