Recent Howard Johnson Newark Review: "After reading quite a few negative reviews from previous customers, I was somewhat hesitant about staying at this Ho-Jo's, but I thought I could pretty much tolerate anything for the very reasonable price of the room. To my surprise, I found quite a few positive things to note: The hotel check in staff were very courteous, professional, patient (especially  with an international traveler who was checking in ahead of me) and very willing give helpful advice. Even though it was quite confusing to find the corrrect road to get to the hotel, the proximity and convenience to Newark Liberty Airport and NYC were a definite plus. There is a shuttle that travels to and from Manhattan at least four times a day for $25.00 return which isn't bad. Not having to drive into NYC is worth ten times that amount!! There are really no stores, restaurants (other than the hotel restaurant), etc within walking distance of the hotel so one needs to drive into the nearest town/city which is about five miles. The rooms were more than adequate. Clean, spacious, comfortable bed, quiet. good selection of TV channels. Free USA Today newspaper. I never felt unsafe during my entire stay. Parking is $15.00 daily, but try to find that deal in NYC!!! This is now my third stay at this Howard Johnsons and would definitely recommend it. The really negative reviews I have read I believe are somewhat unfair. Some people expect a four star hotel for a two star price."
