Recent Hudson Morgans Original Review: "A horrid hotel. The positives: The scene is young, up market, pretentiously hip. The negatives: ELEVATORS in this 20 story building: The elevators do not have air conditioning... you breathe in the germs of everyone who's sick on that elevator and who was in it during the past multiple trips. Hot, stale, smelly. BATHROOM in hotel room: NO ACTIVE  VENTILATION. Passive, tiny ventilator. You know what that means, rightr Imagine this: You invite a date to your room. They use the bathroom. Then you two enjoy the odors for the next 15 minutes or until your noses become deadened to the stink. What a nightmare. AIR CONDITIONING IN the room: Bring earplugs. Each room is a glorified motel, with its own air conditioning unit making an interminable racket. Either control the temperature or be stifled in uncirculating, stale air (and never mind not using the bathroom). LIGHTING: The only easily accessible plug to charge one's cell phone is in the bathroom. And the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a glass panel and a diaphanous fabric. The light in the bathroom must be "on" for you to get electrical juice into the plug that charges the cell phone. Try that for an hour in the night. The hotel concept is fabulously fun, like a little Las Vegas in NY. But the execution is atrocious. IMO, look for a different hotel; there are many. And go to the Hudson to party or to their bar. Their scene isn't the only one in NY. My assessment of the crowd is a lot of people who are posturing; so if you're that person, then bring your noseclips and help yourself."

  • Overview
In a completely original city like New York, why not stay in a completely original hotel? Located in Midtown Manhattan, Hudson, A Morgans Original was one of the first cutting-edge boutique hotels created by hotelier extraordinaire Ian Schrager, who also co-founded the Studio 54 nightclub.

Day or night, Hudson, A Morgans Original, puts you within easy reach of everything on your New York must-do list. Walk 2 blocks to the Time Warner Center, home to the upscale Shops at Columbus Circle. If your shopping spree has whetted your appetite, you can stop by Whole Foods, on the Center's lower level, or pick up a sandwich and cookie to-go from Chef Thomas Keller's fabulous Bouchon Bakery. Then walk across the street to Central Park, for an only-in-New-York picnic. In the evening, take in one of those Broadway shows everyone's talking about. The Theater District is less than a mile south of the hotel.

The Hudson is a destination unto itself. Ian Schrager and designer Phillippe Starck collaborated to produce a collection of unforgettable environments. Drinks are served at the hotel's stylish bar, with its glowing glass floor, and at Private Park, a verdant enclosed space with trees, grass, and lawn furniture that's open seasonally. The wood-paneled Library takes a more classic approach, with an antique billiards table and fireplace. On the 15th-floor Sky Terrace, you can sip a drink while lounging in a teak chair or lazing in a hammock (open seasonally). Feeling energetic? The fitness center is open 24 hours a day.

Most Hotel Rooms at the Hudson are compact. The size and design bring to mind a classic cruise-ship stateroom, with navy-inspired touches like steamer-trunk fabric and brass rivets. Unlike seafaring accommodations of the past, Hotel Rooms include platform beds with Egyptian-cotton linens and down pillows and duvets. Bedside lamps are hand-painted by Italian artist Francesco Clemente. You can check your email via wireless Internet access (surcharge), or watch a late-night movie on the flat-panel HDTV. Telephones have private numbers. Bathrooms are stocked with products by New York's own Malin+Goetz Apothecary and Lab.

    Hotel Rooms
Hotel Rooms are modeled after sea-faring vesels. Designer Felipe Starck furnished the Hotel Rooms with navy-inspired chairs and headboards with steamer-trunk fabric and brass rivets. Beddings provide 250-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, while the duvets and pillows are made of down. Complimentary newspapers are delivered to the Hotel Rooms. Wireless Internet access is available. Bathrooms include bathrobes and Agua toiletries.

    Hotel Features
Designed by Studio 54 creator Ian Schrager, the lobby is draped by a forty foot canopy of ivy growing below the glass ceiling. A large chandelier hangs overhead and music plays in the background. The manicured and landscaped Sky Terrace offers panoramic views of the city. The Hudson Cafeteria, offering Ivy League dining but resembling a 1940s automat, serves comfort food with healthy options. Private Park, in the hotel's elevated lobby, resembles Central Park. Food and drinks are served among 45-foot trees and ivy-covered walls. Outdoor heaters and a glass roof make this hideaway enjoyable year round. Two floors of the hotel are devoted to meeting facilities, and wireless Internet access is available in the lobby.

    Recreation

Walk to the Sub Basement Level, and you’ll find Hudson Gym, a compact, 24-hour fitness center offering cardio equipment and free weights. Personal trainers are available upon request.

Prefer a fresh-air workout? The Hudson offers complimentary bicycle use, available on a first-come, first-serve basis--perfect for a ride in Central Park. Stop by the concierge desk to make a reservation.

    A short guide to Midtown

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

    Spa information

Massage is available in Hudson Gym, and spa treatments can also be provided in the privacy of your Hotel Rooms.
