Recent James Times Square Review: "I was willing to take a risk on the St. James based on other reviews I'd read, and the fact that the price and location was right. I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is everything it's supposed to be - excellent budget accomodation. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the a/c worked very efficiently. The bathroom and shower was spotless. As noted by others, there are no frills except for some small bars of soap, but if you prepare ahead of time and shop for travel sized items like shampoo - which should cost about a buck apiece at any drug store - that really isn't a problem. Also, bring your own alarm clock or clock radio. The front desk staff is friendly, and as to the open luggage room next to the front desk - not a problem. I left my bag there all day after I checked out as I had a late flight. There is always a staff member on hand at the desk so there are no worries about anything going missing. The location, of course, cannot be beaten. The block the hotel is on does boast a couple of deli/stores, one of which (The Cranberry Deli) has internet access, several Irish pubs, and a Starbucks, but for great coffee and pastries first thing in the morning, try the Europa Cafe 'round the corner from the hotel on 6th Avenue."

The hotel is older and shows it in its quaint quarters. I thought most Europeans would find it most lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful. Turning in your keys at the front desk was different, but did not pose any great hardship. The location is great easy to get anywhere by foot or hale a cab. Simple and accomodating, no frills. Window air-conditioner did not really cool the room which made it uncomfortable, but in a pinch or if cost is a factor this is a great little hotel. Clean, Simple and a place to lay your head.

Reasonable price for the location. If all you want is a place to sleep, this is fine (though the pillows were a little lumpy). The room was small, but when you're in NY, how much time do you plan to spend in the room really? It's a room to store your luggage during the day and lay your head at night. That's the basics of it, but it really is in the heart of Time Square! That's what sold it for me :)

A correct, clean and nice hotel with all the "must needed" service available. I appreciated especially the night porter asked by name before he left out the key and that it is possible to lock your luggage after check-out.

Great location for the price - comfortable and friendly staff. Unfortunately, I see that prices are increasing substantially from what I've been paying for the last 2 years. Looks like I'll have to shop around for accommodations - which is unfortunate.

St. James Hotel is located in an old, but classic building. We just stayed one night, but I would not have minded staying longer. The room was small, but that was expected for the rate and NY. However, it was clean and gave us a place to shower and rest, which is just what we needed. The people at the front desk were as friendly as could be. The hotel also provides lockers where you can put your things before or after you check out if you are going to wander the city. You did have to pay for the lockers but it was better than lugging our things around for the day. The only complaint I have is that our room faced the street so it was a bit loud when trying to sleep. However it died down and I was tired enough to pass out and not wake up during the night. The location was perfect. You turn the corner and you are literally in the heart of Times Square which I was not expecting. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, and will book my next stay in NY here.

It is located in a great spot. Not to far from the train, next to Time Square. Right next door to two delis and one is open 24 hrs, the pharmacy is around the corner, and Food, Food very convenient locations.. Will Stay there Again...

Only stayed two nights, but went to three Broadway shows & a television show - the location of the hotel allowed us to walk to the plays and to Good Morning America. Very convenient. Room was fine - who spends time in their hotel while in NY?! Only negative: only 2 very small, hot elevators. Desk personnel were very nice and helpful. Leaving key each time we left was different, but not a problem. Nice lounge to wait in for our airport transport & locker rental for all our luggage for the day was only $5.00. Two great delis/stores right next door.

I stayed at the Hotel St. James a couple of years ago. At that time the hotel was satisfactory but in need of updating. I recently stayed there again and pleased to tell you that the hotel has been updated and renovated. The hotel is not a fancy place, just basic accomodations for sleeping, but reasonably priced and right near the nightlife of Times Square and the theater district.

This is a no frills hotel (window A/C units) very conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from Times Square. The bed was too firm for my test, so I had trouble sleeping. There was no air conditioning in the elevator or stairwells. (It was very hot the day I visited.) The clerk was very helpful, and the lobby was beautiful.
