Recent Latham Hotel Review: "This was my first time in NYC, and my first time going on a trip by myself. Being a college student, money was tight. The Latham was just what I needed - and if you are considering this hotel it is all a matter of perspective. The staff which has been described as 'rude' and 'unhelpful' I would describe as just chill and laid back. They aren't going  to give you that phony shiny smile you get at the radisson, but they help when you ask for it, and they do their jobs well. The room was small but had everything that I needed. I did a shared bathroom, and occasionally I had to wait for someone else to get done, but if you get upset about things like that you really just need to not take life to seriously. The bathroom was clean and well designed, and right across the hall from my room. I did occasionally have noise issues, there was one time I could hear people yelling at each other for about 10 minutes, and another when I heard people talking, but not at unreasonable hours. I think my only real issue is that they should invest in better pillows. The pillows are super flat and stiff, and just having a good pillow would have increased the comfort dramatically. I can't speak to the bedding because I brought my own, which I safely contained and washed immediately upon returning home just in case ( I didn't see any signs of bedbugs, but gotta stay careful.) So besides that, this hotel was awesome for the price. Very laid back, I was able to relax, and it was a great central hub for exploring the city. If you want a private room right in midtown and can't afford a bunch of money, and don't mind sharing a bathroom with others, this is definitely the route to go. As long as you can handle issues like a mature adult and don't let small inconveniences ruin a trip you'll enjoy your stay without a doubt. I would definitely stay there again."

A short guide to Chelsea - East and West Villages

Washington Square, surrounded by NYU, divides the Villages. On one side, Greenwich and West villages lure writers and artists with its bohemian ethos, best experienced at a coffeehouse or jazz bar. The other side—the ethnically mixed East Village—is known for live music. For its string of nightclubs, Chelsea’s West 27th Street is known as Club Row. Chelsea is also the city’s main gay neighborhood.

Overview

Located just 2 blocks north of historic Madison Square Park in the eponymously-named NoMad neighborhood, the bargain-priced Latham Hotel places you right between Midtown’s top attractions and the Flatiron District. You are conveniently situated just off Fifth Avenue, about 5 minutes by foot from both the breathtaking Flatiron Building at the southwest corner of the park, and the Empire State Building, 5 blocks north. Are you a more sartorial-minded traveler? Check out the campus museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a 10-minute walk; the permanent collection includes designs by Chanel and Dior. The same distance away is Macy’s flagship store at Herald Square (also the primary terminus for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade). Bookworms, budding business tycoons, and History Channel junkies can haunt the shelves of the Morgan Library and Museum; the final resting place of seminal financier J.P. Morgan’s personal library is just a half-mile away from the hotel.

Modest, smoke-free Hotel Rooms offer cable TV with HBO, and Wi-Fi is available for a surcharge. Air-conditioning is provided for those notoriously muggy NYC summer nights, and blackout drapes dim the room so you can get some sleep. Refrigerators, complimentary toiletries, and hair dryers are available on request. Some rooms have private bathrooms, while guests staying in other rooms have use of shared bathrooms.

Recreation

Although there's no fitness facility onsite, the surrounding neighborhood is home to several Pilates and yoga studios, as well as basketball courts and playgrounds for the little ones.
