Recent Lucerne Hotel Review: "We had a two-part stay in NY, one section at a big-chain giganto hotel in mid-town (paid for by company), and the other at the Lucerne on our own...no contest at all for us which we'd do again. Our room at the Lucerne was very pretty and three or four times bigger, with a seating area and a separate bedroom with two queens instead of one, comfortable,  beautifully appointed and graceful with a combination of silky soft and fluffy firm pillows. Good blackout curtains made it both dark and pretty quiet, even though we had a corner location and lots of windows; the room was very quiet and we had no hall noise at all. Front desk, housekeeping, and doorman staff were available, friendly, and efficient. Breakfast at Nice Matin was delicious and super-speedy when we asked to be, casual and slow when we asked for that. (Also, it's one block from Sarabeth's, one of the best breakfasts in NY!) The location is ideal - just a couple blocks from the Natural History Museum, the Park, multiple subway and cross-town bus lines (to scoot quickly across to the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney, and Upper East Side shopping), and Broadway and the West End Parkway for cab rides to Chelsea and the Village, and in comfortable shoes, walkable to Lincoln Center and Times Square (if you don't mind a longish walk), in a neighborhood that's so much quieter, relaxing, and pleasant than the crazy tourist-and-office-worker crowds in midtown. It was so much nicer to be at the Lucerne, to leave our lovely room and walk through a quiet, pretty lobby out to streets with local, wonderful restaurants of all kinds, adorable shops, and local families and couples, instead of leaving our tiny, noisy, gaudy, may-as-well-be-anywhere chain hotel room, fighting for an elevator, going through a cavernous, cold stone lobby, and walking out to find chain restaurants, trashy street hawkers, grumpy commuters, and honking cabs. There's no comparison, for me! Give me the Lucerne!"
