Recent Mandarin Oriental Review: "An elegant and comfortable hotel. Our room was spotless on the 40th floor and we had a gorgeous bath with a rain shower and tub for two with views of the city. The bed was extremely comfortable being neither too soft nor too hard. The hotel is situated in a complex at Columbus circle that includes an elegant indoor shopping mall with lovely stores and restaurants. The only negative to our room was that we could hear the hum of the elevators as they went by, but it was a very soft and muffled sound that lulled us to sleep. If that would bother you, request a room at the other end of the hall from the elevator bank as it is a short hall way in any case. Stayed over the night of the October surprise snowstorm and would return any time to enjoy the cultural events in the area especially in the winter."

The Mandarin Oriental crowns the north tower of Time Warner Center, occupying floors 35-54 of this New York City landmark. Below, you’ll find The Shops at Columbus Circle, with restaurants, bars, and 50 upscale retailers. Walk a quick half-block across Columbus Circle, and find Central Park’s southwest corner. Lincoln Center, a 3-block walk away, hosts symphonies, Shakespeare, and student performances by The Juilliard School. New York’s Theatre District starts 7 blocks south. Step into the express elevators, and be whisked to the hotel’s 35th-floor sky lobby, a fitting introduction to the dazzling views of Central Park and Midtown Manhattan you’ll find throughout. Works by glass artist Dale Chihuly sparkle in the lobby, while paintings by Valerio Adami adorn the lobby lounge. Ginkgo-leaf accents, antique Mandarin silk robes, and bamboo floors bring an Asian aesthetic to this sky-high hotel. At the 2-floor Spa at Mandarin Oriental, you can indulge in a facial or a massage. Bask in the quiet of the relaxation lounges, or have a custom-blended infusion at the Tea Lounge. Separate men’s and women’s areas include vitality pools and amethyst crystal steam rooms. The 6,000-square-foot fitness center provides fruit-infused water, cardio and strength equipment, and locker rooms with saunas. The indoor pool is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, flooding the room with natural daylight. At Asiate, the hotel’s French-Japanese fusion restaurant, enjoy a 6-course tasting menu beneath the glass tree-branch sculpture that hangs from the ceiling. 2 stylish bars, both adjacent to the lobby, serve cocktails. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel for a surcharge. Hotel Rooms boast more head-turning views of Central Park, the Hudson River, and downtown Manhattan. Binoculars (provided in Hotel Rooms) let you take a closer look at the iconic neighborhood outside. | A short guide to Central Park |
|
Buildings crane above one another to claim views of Central Park, a piece of real estate valued at more than $528 billion. Surprises abound in its 843 acres. The grounds include a castle, a zoo, several lakes, and an Egyptian obelisk. A city that never sleeps needs its quiet time, too: Central Park has six designated “quiet zones,” including Strawberry Fields, the monument to John Lennon.
