Recent Pennsylvania Review: "If you want to spend some time in New York City this is the place. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it's pleasant, and the location is incredible. No, the guests are not pampered, no there is not free internet and furniture guilt with gold; not even free balloons for the kids. But for the modest price you are right across the street from Penn Station which is merely one stop from Grand Central Station--from there it's short subway shuttle ride to Times Square and Broadway. I've seen some of the snooty and disparaging remarks about this hotel and to me they are complete nonsense. Get real: all you're going to do is sleep there because there is simply too much to do in New York City for otherwise. It's fascinating to hear the jabber of other guests in just about every language on the face of the earth and through this you get a real picture of what America is; until anyone opens their trap to communicate they all look as American as the rest of us mutts. This is definitely my preferred hotel--the bathrooms are clean, the beds are certainly acceptable, and the price is right. The haughty nobility who can't stand this place are welcome to direct their drivers and their Rolls Royce to the fancy places so that the myth that New York City is somehow "expensive" is propagated but the Hotel Pennsylvania is perfect for us plebians who are just visiting. All it needs is the Glenn Miller band playing Pensylvainia 6-5000."

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

| The rates were very good, for New York prices. The room was clean & without a lot of street noice. The room was european in size (fairly small) but large eough for us. There were NO BEDBUGS. The staff was extremely helpful. The express checkout was great. The only problems were they were confused on how many people were staying in the room because we only got 1 wash cloth each day and did not want to stand in line to tell them. Also, the cleanig staff and floor manager walked in on us 3 times, thinking we were not there. The location was the best part. It was across from Penn station. Plenty of small local food places around. We would definately stay there again, just keep the doors bolted. |

| You just can't beat the location of this hotel. Right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden which means you can easily access any subway line. Walking distance from Times Square and a number of places to visit.
Unfortunately you should expect to wait a very long time to check in as they never seem to have enough clerks on hand. What clerks they do have on hand are rude and seem to act as if its a nuisance to assist you. Internet is pretty pricey (in the lobby) and don't expect anything free like checking bags but at least there is a fitness center on the 19th floor (gotta take the elevator to 18 and walk up a flight of stairs)
Its an older hotel that could definitely use a bit of an internal facelift. There is paint coming off of walls, stains on carpets. They also don't have the floors labeled very well so you might have to take a bit of a walk to figure out where your room is. |

| Normally I wouldn't stay in that part of midtown, it's crowded as anything. We stayed here mainly becuase we had an early train out of Penn Station that morning, and it sure was convenient -- All we did was roll out the front door, cross the street and go down the escalator. The place is a bit of a 1920's Art Deco trip, but that also means the rooms are a bit small, and we had a problem with our room in that the air conditioning was a bit anemic, not a good thing to have to deal with when the temperature is topping 95 degrees F. But we did have a great view of the Empire State building out of our window.
We arrived early before the rooms was ready, and they do have a baggage room, but not only do you have to pay for it, but you have to get in line at the front desk and buy your claim checks, and then go downstairs and drop the bags off. They can't hire a trustworthy baggage room attendant who can take the money and save you a wait in line? |

| I had read with some concern some very negative reviews about this hotel. However, my stay there was very satisfactory. My room was clean, the beds great, the AC worked fine, the bathroom (though small) was clean and upgraded, the maid service was good, the hotel staff was pleasant and helpful, the wi fi worked (in the lobby), the fitness room satisfactory, and check in (at 5 PM) was a breeze. It was a great value for the price...Stay there !!! |

| I read the other reviews that were poor but it wasn't that bad. My room was a standard hotel size and decent clean bathroom. Amneties were great-coffee cafe open 24 hours. We came back late from partying and security was sitting at the elevators checking room cards-safety is a plus. I wasn't rude with the check-in people and they were quite nice to me. Great price for NYC hotels, would stay again if needed too. |

| We traveled as a group from BAltimore & Boston for a very short stay in Manhatten. We had 2 rooms.
The price was really reasonable, The location across from MAdison Square Garden/Penn Station.
Hotel Penn is a historic charming old building that retains a lot of charector dating back to the 1800's.
It was cool to stay in the Hotel that Glen Miller wrote the song about.
The room were huge, one had 3 twins, the other was 2 queens. Yes, the carpet was ugly brown, but it was clean, as was the bedding, towls were large & all was changed daily. Bathrooms are very clean.
We had a small plumbing problem with the toilet. But that was fixed in 15min. It needed to be plunged. Considering the age of the building it will have quirks of its own. My bathroom was like steping back to the 1920's.
The views from the 3 windows was spectacular
Many places to eat & are open late.
Check in early no problem Check in between 3-7 there are long lines. What do expect they have 1400
rooms. Same with check out.
Staff is awesome, very helpful & pleasant. But act as if you are entitled they probably get surly.
I would stay here again & will in the future. I loved this hotel. But if you like BIG BOX COOKIE CUTTER
hotels you won't like this hotel. The four of us think it's awesome ! |
