Recent Pod Review: "For my 30th birthday, I flew from Seattle with my brother in law to see a game at Yankee Stadium before they tear it down at the end of the season.
We took the air train to subway and got off at 50th. Unfortunately it wasn't the right stop. The stop is on the west side so we had about 9 blocks to walk to the hotel. In our walk we passed and Applebees, TGIF, a steak house, Radio City Music Hall, a Rite Aid and several other stores.
The hotel is less than a full block away from the local fire and police precinct, but at no time in our stay was I remotely apprehensive about walking the streets, day or night.
The front desk guy was friendly and let us check in a couple hours early. The concierge lady gave us printed out subway directions to Yankee stadium, which took us less than a half an hour to travel to.
We had a bunk bed room on the 10th floor (14 floors total) with a window that opens to the city. As expected the view consisted of clouds and lots of sky scrapers.
The beds were surprisingly very high quality mattresses and the TV for each bed worked great.
There is an indicator in your room which bathrooms were available so you don't have to go to each bathroom on the floor to see which one is open (there were 4 on our floor).
The bathrooms were very clean, especially for a community environment. I took 3 showers in 2 days and never did the bathrooms look like they had other users. The showers had an overhead shower head, rain style, with plenty of water pressure and hot water. There are shampoo and body lotion dispensers in all the showers.
You can even go out on the roof where there is plenty of furniture to relax and have a drink.
So for a great, clean, safe room in an area where most rooms start at $300 and up, this is a perfect choice. We just needed a place to stay and got surprised on how clean and comfortable everything was."

| A short guide to Midtown |
|
Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.
|
 |
| Recreation |
|
Central Park, 12 blocks (about a mile) from the hotel, encompasses 843 acres of meadows, woods, cliffs, ravines, gardens, paths, and lakes in an emerald setting. Popular walking and running routes include Central Park Drive (closed to traffic during scheduled hours) and the path around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. The park abounds with playgrounds and wide, open spaces for romping. The Loeb Boathouse, on a picturesque lake, has rowboat and bicycle rentals. The Wollman Rink offers ice-skating in the winter, the Victorian Gardens amusement park during warmer months, and splendid views of the park and city year-round.

| If you're comfortable in a very cozy room, this is a great place to stay. The shared bathroom was very clean and the shower pressure was good too! I would stay here again. |

| This is a boutique hotel in the middle of mid-town and very close to the subway station. The room itself was very small but clean and pleasant and there was a common shared bathroom down the hall. It felt like it was a place for young people and there were many travellers from Europe. I'm older, but I still felt at home and it worked for me. If you want a clean place to sleep, close to everything without a lot of extra bells and whistles and willing to share a bathroom, then this place will work for you. |

| I have stayed at the Pod Hotel since its earlier incarnation as the Pickwick Arms. Since then, the hotel has been remodeled, updated, and vastly improved. The rooms, as might be expected, are very small but imminently practical and comfortable, at least for a single traveler. The shared baths are clean, and their availability is indicated by lights over the door in the room. Nice breakfast bistro, free wifi, and a terrific location, too. This is always my first choice when I travel to Manhattan and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants location, comfort, and a truly competitive price (especially when booked through Hotels, com! |

| Good location however tight small space. Not sure I would stay again. The manager was somewhat rude after I checked out. I checked out early so the maids could clean the room and I was sick, I propped my leg on a badly stained couch and he walked over and told me to move my leg very rudely. Considering I stayed a week and everyone else was very nice I would like to say he was just rude. Very small and tv did not work well. |

| The thing is that this hotel is actually rather nice. Yes rooms are small but they are clean and quiet. The hotel is located in a residential area which is nice, the Subway is just a short walk away and there are shop, pubs and restaurants in the vicinity. And for god sake do NOT miss the wonderful wine-bar next to the hotel - Le Bateau Ivre. |

| My room was a small pod. But very hip and Euro-style. Efficient! Had everything I needed. Cool decor.
Internet set up not optimal but overall loved the accomodations. Very international clientelle; many languages heard in the lobby. Chose a room with a private bath and was glad I did; the shared baths looked used. But the rooms, the public spaces and the clientelle overall looked clean, polished and classy. |

| This is the second stay for me at this hotel and I will stay here again. The location, sleek design, and the added bonus of a gorgeous rooftop deck are all appealing. This time I visited NYC with my 15 yo daughter and booked the double bunk bed room that came equipped with mini-televisions for each bed. It was a hit. The shared bath was clean and convenient.
One tip: ask for a quiet floor or a room in the back. I did both times and had a fine night's sleep each visit.
One minor thing: there's no ice machine which would have been nice to have on a hot summer night for beverages. Also, the French restaurant next door is charming but overpriced even by NYC standards.
All in all, a glorious stay. |

| My first impression of the hotel was the front door man (who was extremely helpful and friendly) and the funky decor. So, good start. The front desk person was nice - helpful and laidback. The "concierge" looked bored and didn't seem to be much help to those I watched talk to her.
The room - it's very small. But that's the point. There is storage under the bed and in the closet, but the room is mostly taken up by the bed. The sink is a small metal basin, it reminded me of being in a sleeper car in a train (in a good way!). The decorations were very modern, hip. And the bed was really comfortable. Room was very clean. I don't really care about having a lot of space, as long as it's well-decorated, original, clean and comfortable.
The outdoor spaces of this hotel are pretty incredible. They have a great two-level garden patio where they serve breakfast (pretty simple, but tasty - croissants, bagels, hard boiled egg, granola, fruit...). It has great plants and gets good light in the morning. I loved sitting out there and reading, planning my day. You can hear the bustle of the city in the distance, but you can't see it, and there's something so lovely and serene about that. The best part was the rooftop patio. It has a few really large/wide benches, some great plants, and there are great views. I would come back just for the rooftop patio and the garden.
I really love this hotel and would highly recommend it for travelers who want a fun hotel that's not terribly expensive. (I'm not sure it's a "budget" hotel, but that's all relative in NYC...) |

| After the initial bad surprise that there was no bathroom in the room and the extremely small room, the rest of our stay was good. Except one person at the front desk that was not willing to help us and was a little rude with us, the other employees were really nice and wanted to help us. The price and location are unbeatable. But I think that next time I will pay a little more to have space and bathroom in the room. |

| I loved this hotel. The common areas, lobby, lounge, roof deck and little patio are great. Service was prompt and attentive. Rooms are small but I think they're just fine . After all it's NY and you only go there to sleep. Location was perfect. I lived in NY for 3 years and the area where the hotel is, it's perfect.
Not to be mean, but overweight people probably won't fit in the bathroom.
Loved it!!! |
