| A short guide to Midtown |
Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

| Overview |
Modern elegance rules the runway at the Renaissance New York Hotel 57, located on Manhattan's fashionable East Side. At the corner of East 57th Street and Lexington Avenue, this hotel is just 2 blocks from Madison Avenue, lined with ultra-chic stores like Barneys New York and international couturier boutiques. Be sure to stop by Ralph Lauren (867 Madison), housed in the magnificent Rhinelander Mansion from New York's Gilded Age. One block past Madison, more world-class shopping awaits along Fifth Avenue: think classics like Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman--and modern marvels like the Apple Store, a high-tech nirvana. For a peaceful interlude, share a picnic or stroll the picturesque paths of Central Park, just a half-mile from the hotel. The park is also perfect for a morning jog, a summertime row on the lake, and a wintertime whirl on the skating rink. When night falls, see stars take the stage in a Broadway play; the Theatre District is just over a mile from the Renaissance 57. Drama and style meet in the hotel's gorgeous lobby, created by award-winning designer Jordan Mozer. Mahogany floors, curvaceous leather chairs, dark velvet curtains, and burnished-bronze accents lure you to linger after a long day. A broad spiral staircase leads to the second floor, where you'll find the Opia restaurant, serving modern French cuisine and sushi. In warmer weather, you can dine on one of the intimate terraces overlooking the street. Or take in the panoramic views--including the iconic Chrysler Building--from the Rooftop Lounge on the 17th floor. The hotel keeps an eye on practical matters, too: The business and fitness centers are open 24 hours a day. Your Hotel Rooms is a soothing haven from the city bustle. Beds are layered with 340-thread-count linens, cozy duvets, and plump pillows. 37-inch flat-screen HDTVs come with connectivity panels for laptops and media players. Clock radios include iPod docks, so you can awaken to your own playlist. Stay in touch via wireless and wired high-speed Internet access, available for a surcharge. Marble bathrooms feature Aveda products and comfy bathrobes. And rest assured: This hotel has a smoke-free policy.
