Recent Roger Smith Hotel Review: "The first thing I have to say about this hotel was that the staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Usually when I stay in NYC, the concierges are not usually inviting nor do they appear to want to actually help out a guest. But not the Roger Smith the weekend I came to stay!
The room was much bigger than I expected. I'm used to a queen size bed taking up the whole room with about a foot of space around the bed. So the double beds with at least 2 feet clearance around them (excluding one side of each bed next to the walls/air conditioner) was much appreciated. The room sort of had a peasant/country look (the shower curtain had that cabbage rose/flower design with the pastel colors) that made it seem homey. There were 4 mirrors (two in the room, two in the bathroom with one being a full length mirror) along with a sink outside of the bathroom so that was great when my friends and I were getting ready to go out for the night. There was a big desk and huge chair that got in our way until we just put it in the corner. There was even an armchair to sit in! The television was one of the those old bulky ones, but we didn't use it, so we didn't care. The beds were comfortable and clean (there was this fleece blanket that was itchy though).
Unfortunately when we went, they were renovating/remodeling the hotel, so the bar was closed and so was the restaurant. There was the option of going to another cafe and getting 15% off the meal. There's no ice machine, but if you ask the desk, they'll send a bucket up. There's no vending machine either, but Duane Reade is literally right next door to the hotel, so it's just a quick walk across the street. There's also a liquor store on the other side of the street if you need to hit one up before going out.
There's not much I remember about my stay, but I really appreciated the excellent staff that night. I stayed in the city until the following night and check out was at noon, but the hotel offered to put my bags in a closet instea"

Located on Midtown's popular East Side, the Roger Smith Hotel artfully walks the line between homey and hip, blending the warmth of an inn with the swagger of Times Square and the Theater District, less than a mile away. Grand Central Terminal, with its soaring celestial ceiling, is a 5-minute walk south. Or you can spend part of your day shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue, then visiting magnificent St. Patrick's Cathedral--all without walking more than 10 minutes from the hotel. For natural wonders, visit Central Park, a 15-minute walk up Fifth Avenue. Bibliophiles might prefer Bryant Park, a half-mile from the hotel--the huge New York Public Library is adjacent, and the park hosts an outdoor library in the summer. You can plan your Manhattan adventures with complimentary Wi-Fi, available throughout the hotel. Finish the evening with a nightcap at Henry's Rooftop Bar (open seasonally), an open-air terrace with amazing views of Midtown skyscrapers. Or you can dine in your Hotel Rooms at any time--room service is available 24 hours a day. Hotel Rooms are individually decorated in a warmly inviting New England style. Stretch out on the pillowtop mattress and watch a late-night flick; the TV comes with a DVD player, and you can check out a complimentary movie from the hotel's library. A good book is always at hand, thanks to the stocked Hotel Rooms bookshelves. The mini-fridge will keep your bubbly cold while you and your nearest and dearest are hitting the town--an evening you can enjoy child-free with in-room childcare (surcharge).

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.
