Recent Sofitel New York Review: "We stayed at the Sofitel from Aug 29 - Sept 1 for our trip to the US Open Tennis Championship. I booked a Deluxe Queen Room with breakfast at the Sofitel after reading other reviews and hotel pictures. Upon check-in I was asked if the 4th floor was okay and said 'No'. I asked for a room on a higher floor further from the elevator. Danielle at the front desk then found us a room on the 16th floor. She walked us to the room and it had a horrible view and was a corner room. The corner rooms seem much smaller due to the awkward angle. She said she'd check for higher rooms and in two minutes called us to meet her on the 21st floor. This room 2114 was perfect...a good view, far from the elevator, good size, and high enough away from any street noise. The Room-- The room was spotless just like in the pictures. The Bathroom-- The bathroom was perfect. I picked this hotel over the comparable Times Square hotels because I am a bathroom snob. I need the extra sq feet, vanity space, stand up shower, newer fixtures and mirrors, CLEAN bathtub, and divider between toilet and sink. There was no mold anywhere! The fresh orchid was a nice touch. The Bed -- The bed was very soft. I usually like a firm bed, but we both slept great. Location -- If you're visiting the US Open in Flushing Meadows this is a great location. We had an 7-8 minute walk to Grand Central Station to catch the number 7 train for a 30 minute ride to the Shea Stadium stop. The 7 express ride back is a little faster at 21 minutes. My husband is a runner and ran the few blocks to run through Central Park so that worked out too. Breakfast -- We ate a relaxing breakfast every morning at the Gaby restaurant with complimentary newspapers. Buy the extra breakfast charge when you book the hotel. The french press coffee and juice, croissants, Steak and Egg, Nutella pancakes, or Egg White Omelet entrees were very good and worth the up front charge. The service was excellent. The regular prices ranged from $19 -$26 (Steak, E"
