Whether you are ready for a throwback adventure that recalls teen years spent in an arcade or you are just looking for a few minutes peace from a rowdy group of kids, New York City arcades have you covered. Here are five of the best places to enjoy video games.
Dave and Busters in Times Square
Although a more expensive option when compared to other arcades, Dave and Busters has the attraction of catering to a more mature crowd. Anyone under the age of 21 must be chaperoned, and each adult chaperone is limited to a few kids. Dave and Busters offers a wide variety of games, food and plentiful drinks for adult customers.
Barcade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Another adult-only arcade, this is a great place for those looking to return to yesteryear for a few hours. The game selection features a rotating group of vintage games like Pac-Man and Tron. None of the games were made after 1990, and you can pony up to any of them with a single quarter. Compete against high scores posted on an enormous chalkboard while enjoying beer on tap.
New York University Game Center
The University's game design and programming group hosts underground game competitions, exhibitions and conferences. The events are known to present some of the coolest gaming entertainment in the city and are often open to the public.
Coney Island Arcade
A list of New York City arcades would be incomplete without a shout-out to the iconic Coney Island game area. The area sports a number of vintage games as well as fair games like Skeeball. The Coney Island Arcade is not going to offer anything new or shiny, but for casual summer gaming, there is no better location.
Community 54
This arcade includes a gallery and clothes shop. Old school games are served up on a rotating basis for the enjoyment of customers and guests. This is the perfect place to get your game on while your friends and companions shop.
New York offers an abundant arcade selection. You can find a location for family fun, a rowdy night with friends, or just a few hours to remember your youth.
