The Plaza Hotel is arguably Hollywood's most famous inanimate movie star, appearing in more than twenty-five films from the late nineteen fifties on. It is located on Fifth Avenue in Grand Army Plaza. Among famous New York Hotels, none are as iconic as the Plaza. For the cost of a single night's stay, most people could pay their home's mortgage for a month, so you may want to put this hotel on the "sightseeing" list, or, if you can afford a room, treat yourself to one of the most luxurious events New York City has to offer.

Several other high-class area hotels have become part of the city's culture as well. The Hotel Roosevelt, on Madison Avenue, was opened in 1924 and a feature location in the well-known film "Malcolm X."

And if you miss the Waldorf Astoria you will regret it. Though it's only featured in a few films (like "Serendipity" with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale), one of these films was titled prominently for the hotel's role in the movie. "Weekend at the Waldorf" was filmed in 1945 and it could not be topped. The world over has the Waldorf to thank for such things as the namesake salad and poems by Langston Hughes and Wallace Stevens.

Many will love to see these beautiful hotels, and even if you cannot frequent one as a guest, taking a tour of the hotels that have become central to the city's culture is a fun way to spend a vacation day.
