On November 10th, the most delicious event of the fall season is held in New York—the 14th Annual Chocolate Show. Between the start of November and the end of December, several don’t-miss occasions are on the New York event schedule, but none as sweet as a chocolate show.
On November 10-13, the Margaret Mead Film Festival will feature over thirty-five films, including seven made in the United States. Opening and closing night tickets sell for only $15, and screening tickets are $12 apiece. At the film festival, most of the features are documentary style with a focus on human rights, making this activity priority for anyone who wants to be on the bleeding edge of social trends and topics.
Puerto Ricans make up a substantial part of the Big Apple. The Puerto Rican community heavily influences everything from food to culture. On Nov. 2nd, the 6th Annual Boromix Puerto Rican fest celebrates the history and culture of this New York population. A feature musical on the life of Roberto Clemente is among the many activities that will take place during the festival.
The White Light Festival features a rare a cappella musical performance by the Belgian group Medieval Apocalypse. Called Utopia, the show is scheduled on November 10th at 7:30pm in the Fourth Universalist Church. It is the year’s unforgettable musical event. Few other concertos showcase the power and beauty of human vocals and captivate listeners so fully. For a less traditional contemporary musical experience, try the Bang on a Can All-Stars performance at Carnegie Hall on November 5th. If the All-Stars don’t suit your style, enjoy the Borromeo String Quartet, also at Carnegie Hall, on December 2nd.
Craving some holiday cheer? From November 22nd through January 6th, you can enjoy the annual Christmas Tree, decorated in an 18th century baroque style, featured at the MET.
Finally, if you have been dying for a peek into the best parts of New York City’s five boroughs, consider the NYC Marathon, either as a viewer or as a runner.
