Recent Washington Jefferson Hotel Review: "I treated my 25-year-old daughter to a Big Apple adventure as a combination Christmas and Masters Degree graduation gift. It was the first time in NYC for both of us. Every time we ventured out for the day, we commented on the convenience of this location right off of 8th Ave. We used the subway system extensively to travel around seeing the sights and neighborhoods of Manhattan. There are several subway stations very close to the hotel, so we never had to walk very far to get on a train. But, we also walked a lot because the hotel is so close to everything we wanted to see and do. It's only about a block or so to the Gershwin theatre to see Wicked; same for the Iridium Jazz Club to hear the legendary Les Paul (father of the electric guitar) play on Monday nights and Caroline's Comedy Club on Broadway, where we caught the last night of a Kevin Nealon (of SNL fame)show. We walked down Broadway to Times Square, a few blocks east to the Rockefeller Center and to Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular show, to St. Patrick's Cathedral, and west to the Hell's Kitchen area where there are many restaurants, bars, shops, etc. It is true that the rooms are very small compared with other hotels. We booked a room with two twin beds and a private bath. It was just fine for us. The bathrooms have been renovated with slate tiles, Toto toilets, and Kohler fixtures. They furnish nice bath products and wonderful large, soft, fluffy towels. We had one bedside table, a small desk, and a closet that was quite adequate for the clothes we brought for a five-day stay. There was an ironing board and small safe in the closet, but no coffee maker in the room. That was also OK with us because you can't walk a block in the area without hitting a deli, diner, or Starbucks. The staff at the front desk and the bellhops were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and the bedding comfortable. Yes, the mattress is quite firm, so if you like a soft"
