Recent Washington Square Hotel Review: "The hotel is very clean, staff was friendly, and place looks cool as renovated art deco. Terrific location for anything in Greenwich Village. Only drawback is that the rooms are VERY small. We stayed two nights but more than that might have made us a little claustrophobic."

A short guide to Chelsea - East and West Villages

Washington Square, surrounded by NYU, divides the Villages. On one side, Greenwich and West villages lure writers and artists with its bohemian ethos, best experienced at a coffeehouse or jazz bar. The other side—the ethnically mixed East Village—is known for live music. For its string of nightclubs, Chelsea’s West 27th Street is known as Club Row. Chelsea is also the city’s main gay neighborhood.

Location

Located in the center of Greenwich Village (N.Y.), the historic Washington Square Hotel is within four blocks of the famed Blue Note, Comedy Cellar and the Village Underground. The hotel is across from historic Washington Square.

The Art Deco hotel, built in 1902 and expanded in 2002, features a re-created original façade, while mosaic artworks by co-owner Rita Paul adorn inside walls. The hotel's North Square Restaurant and Lounge specializes in American cuisine with Central American and Asian touches and features 127 international wines. Light fare is offered at the quieter Café Vogue. The hotel includes a fitness center and massage room. Complimentary continental breakfasts are provided. High-speed Internet access is available in the lobby and café.

The 170 Hotel Rooms provide views of Washington Park, the Empire State Building and West Side. Washed in subdued palettes, the Hotel Rooms include desks, cable television and data ports.
