| When New Yorkers talk about "the Village", they mean Greenwich Village. The winding streets are reminiscent of a
European town. New York University (NYU)
is down here, so it's understandable that the Village has the benefits of a
college town, including small, independent shops: bakeries, clothing, food,
music shops and more.
Walk east and you'll move from the Village to the East Village. Once the home of black-clad, bright-haired
punks, it has been changed by gentrification. The mixture of upscale restaurants and down-market street stands is
captivating.
